To all:
Please help me to confirm my thoughts here. The AORN Guidelines state that skin prep is done prior to putting on a sterile gown to perform the procedure. The gloves may be sterile or non sterile for prep. This makes sense to me as why would someone want to throw staph aureus all over their sterile gown during a prep.
Anyone have any comments here? I think we need to have someone present sterile technique at AVA 2012 if the conference committee is listening to me?

AORN states to prep prior to doning a sterile gown as when one preps they may contaminate their gown with what is coming off of the skin. this makes total sense to me. If I prep and get my prepping solution on my gown or brush my gown up against an undrapped patient I will contaminate my gown

We do a pre procedure prep, front and back from forearm to armpit, with CHG SAGE clothes and wrap the arm with a sterile drape
Then gown glove and set up our sterile field, venistrating the upper arm and scrubbing again with Chloroprep prior to insertion
