We are looking at the Tegaderm transparent dressing with the CHG gel pad built in for our CVC dressings. If anyone is using it, can you please give me some feedback? I would appreciate it. Thanks.
We use the tegaderm CHG. I haven't checked lately, but for awhile 'they' were saying there wasn't as much data to support it's use as the biopatch. I do know that it is what we have to use, with the biopatch and tegaderm as a back-up if people have problems with the tegaderm CHG.
The biggest issue we have using it is removing it. Be sure that you pay close attention to the technique for removal. Low and slow removal works well enough. I always keep a syringe of saline handy to drip on the gel to loosen it easily. The rep should know all the tricks. we have had some central lines pulled while removing the dressing by people that don't remember the tricks.
We have been using the Tegaderm CHG dressing for over a year. We had initial problems with one specific nursing unit not letting the skin cleaners drying before applying the dressing (patients had skin reactions). Eductaion has fixed this issue. We have also noticed that the dressing difficulty to remove at first, but low and slow does work, also we use chloraprep 3ml applicators to help remove the dressing. They seem to work great a removing the dressing and as a bonus you aer cleaning the skin also.
