persistent hiccups in a patient with a PICC

Has anybody had any experience with persistent hiccups in a patient with a PICC (our pt has had the PICC for a week and supposedly has had hiccups since the PICC was inserted, when he sits upright).  Has anybody heard of this?

Thanks,

Carol

"A peripherally inserted

"A peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) provides an important access for patients requiring prolonged intravenous infusion. However, intravascular migration and subsequent malposition of a PICC may be caused by its flexibility and thinness and by changes in intrathoracic pressure and body position. In this report, we describe one case of persistent hiccup whose PICC migrated to and was bent and folded in the right subclavian vein."  I found this on the internet

Thanks, Random, we did see

Thanks, Random, we did see that article also, but wondered if anybody had any personal experience with this issue.  We did a chest xray and the tip is still in good position.  MD wanted it pulled back to midline length, so that is what we did.  Now we're waiting to see if it makes any difference.
