EKG for tip population in the pediatric population

Are there any Pediatric PICC teams out there that are using EKG for tip confirmation when placing PICCS????

I may be incorrect, but

I may be incorrect, but I don't believe that the FDA approved the ECG tip confirmation for use in children.

 Pretty much nothing is FDA

Pretty much nothing is FDA approved for the pediatric population including the Sherlok, however it can be used off label...

Pediatric PICCs and EKG tip confirmation

The technology is not FDA approved for use in pediatrics. I only do peds and we started using the EKG technology this year and have had mixed reviews and results. Our final position placement confirmation is always an xray but it has been interesting to see how accurate we've been. Even with the ability to slow the rhythm on the monitor seeing the wave change has been really hard in some instances. We've found it works well for kids over 10 and we're pretty accurate (sorry I don't have specific #'s, we're still collecting data) but under 10 it's a real mixed bag!

Thank you for your input, we

Thank you for your input, we are sending proposal to IRB for trial, 200 patients is our goal after approval.  I will bring your comments to our principle investigator.  We have a team in the OR that place PICCs and we use flouro and a chest film, however we would like to move away from flouro.  Our IV team uses the sherlok which I am not impressed, I must say, having used it on several occasions.  Which company are you affiliated with for EKG?

EKG tip confirmation

We are currently using Bard 3CG..... Hopefully once we transition to the Diamond technology (which at the rate we're going won't be til after the first of the year) we too will start a trial and hopefully have some good data to share!!

At AVA Conference

At the AVA conference I saw, ECG technology that was for peds and adults and for ANY CVAD it was called Nautilus made by Romedex. This technology was compact, it could be used on iPads and with Smartphones. Not sure it was FAD approved here yet. Check out the link below for more information.
