PIV in arm with old plate and screws

Are there any standards or recommendations regarding placement of PIVs in an arm with an old plate and screws for treatment of a fracture.  Also if site selection ie. is on the alternate side of arm is part of the decision making.

Thanks

I am not aware of any

I am not aware of any standards or gudielines that addresses this issue. How old are these pieces of hardware? What is the patient's immune status? Are they on any drugs that keep the immune system suppressed, eg., biologics? As with all patients, strict attention to all infection prevention practices is required. I have seen a CRBSI lead to infection in artifical joints in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis receiving Remicaide. And the infecting organism indicated very poor technique to access the CVAD.
