This topic has not been brought up in some time. We are looking at some policies to see if they can or should be adjusted.
Of the AIC's and home infusion providers out there what are your thoughts.
In a former life and employer we taught self disconnect without any adverse events.
Thanks Much Craig
We are a large home care/home infusion company. We have a fair number of patients that are on home 5FU chemotherapy.
Our typical practice is to have them return to the ambulatory infusion center or if insurance covers it, we will disconnect in the home.
At times, we have patients that live quite a distance away from the infusion center and ask if they can be taught. In this case, we will. This only happens a couple of times per year. I am not aware of any problems as long as they are educated on chemo precautions, disconnect, flush, and proper chemo disposal.
