I was wondering how other people in the peds area are keeping IV sites protected from accidental or intentional removal. Especially in the toddler age group. It seems we have a propensity to use a lot of coflex and or Kerlexmaking site assessment very difficult. I am pretty sure there are times these sites are not assessed well with removal of the wrap. Any really nifty ideas would be appreciated.
I.V. House products are much better than any type of rolled bandage for the reasons you mentioned. Rolled bandages should never be used on an IV site. Lynn

We use statlocks and we have great armboards that allow you to wrap them but allows the site to remain visible.

we use stat-locks and love them, but we are about to start a trial of a 3M "engineered advanced dressing" that is supposed to perform as well and cost less

NO coflex or kerlex - besides making it difficult to obeserve site, it can cause constriction of the limb. We do use cushioned armboards, and tape carefully so that the site is always visible.
I totally agree - absolutely no rolled bandages, regardless of their elastic properties, of any kind. For patients with severe skin issues (and there are several) the use of a tubular mesh dressings is the way to go. Lynn

I would encourage you to look at www.ivhouse.com. I am the Marketing Director for I.V. House and think the product you are looking for is something like our I.V. House UltraDome.
And in regards to the armboard with see-through openings, the TLC UltraSplint by I.V. House is a great solution.
I hope this information helps and I'll continue following this discussion in case you have other questions. Or feel free to email me at [email protected].
Thanks!
