Port flush with pork allergy

We had a call today from an Oncology Pharmacist asking what to do when a child has a pork allergy and will be getting a port placed in about a week. What is the flushing protocol in this situation. Please answer as quickly as possible as this is happening soon.
Thanks!

I am assuming you are asking

I am assuming you are asking about locking rather than flushing. INS SOP 2016 says you can lock all CVADs with normal saline or heparin 10 units per mL. See page S78 I. 2 and 3. This includes implanted ports. There are a variety of alternative lock solutions now used for treating or preventing CRBSI and these are listed in the INS SOP but these all require a compounding pharmacy to provide them. Lynn
