Does anyone have any staff educational checklists that they are willing to share? Checklists for catheter removal, dressing change, lab draws, instillation of CathFlo or any other topic that may be useful to provide to unit managers or skills days for staff education. I have reviewed the resource links and can't seem to find any that pertain to staff - just insertion for the PICC RN. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.
Are you talking about competency assessment forms? Each hospital usually has a standard format they prefer. The skills that are assessed on a regular basis is driven by the clinical outcomes being seen. The steps on each checklist for competency assessment are dependent upon the policies and procedures chosen by each facility. So there is usually many differences. Have you checked with the staff development or edcuation dept at your hospital for the format they use? With that format, you can then plug in the specific criteria from your p&p. Lynn

The web site for Cathflo has an excellent section of professinal resources for teaching and testing the knowledge after each module. I use the material there and the INS standards for instructing my new nurses. For teaching on the different types of catheters used for vascular access I use information from the manufacturers web site such as Bard. Especially for pictures to familiarize them with catheters when infusion nursing is new to them. As for a checklist I only have a simple RN competency list for infusion nursing but would be happy to share it with you.

You will find many compentency checklists on this site in the downloads section, and the INS has a great compentency validation program you can purchase from them. www.ins1.org
