PICC Line Insertion at bedside with Ultrasound

Does anyone have evidence based documented information that supports having a team of 2  PICC trained RNs insert PICCs at the bedside using ultrasound.  One RN is the circulator nurse and one RN is the inserter at the bedside. At our institution, the current practice is for the circulating nurse to ensure that there is no break in sterile technique, and provides assistance with patient positioning /assessment of condition during insertion.  If PICC inserter unable to gain access for PICC placement, the circulator nurse and the inserter switch roles.

I have not seen anything

I have not seen anything published about this practice. The most common way that I have seen in hospitals is for a trained unlicensed assistant to help with the paperwork, supplies, positioning, etc. Of course they could not do the procedure if the RN could not, but they can do all of the other tasks required.
