Any input regarding training parents to administer IV Ampho B over 4hrs in the home setting? I have seen horrible reactions in adults and do not feel this is appropriate therapy for parents to administer. Pt. is also not getting any pre-meds, hydration, and has hx. of kidney issues.
Forgot to mention pt. is an infant.
I had that question emailed to me yesterday but see more detail in your post. NO WAY!!! I would never teach this for amphotericin B in the home with an infant who already has kidney issues. I would not what that responibility. I say it needs to be done in a clinical setting. I might be wrong but then I am one who would rather err on the side of caution:) and our pharmacists all say NO.
