Contact hours

I belong to a local INS chapter that is trying to provide contact hours for the educational events that we provide. Does anyone know of a service that could obtain contact hours for an organization such as ours?

I speak at lots of chapters and find it done in different ways. I do not know of a specific service that you are asking about. Most chapters work through a local hospital that has a providership from the state nurses association. If your state requires mandatory contact hours for relicensure, your chapter could make application to that state board of nursing to become a provider yourself. This is not very expensive - California is $200 for 2 years. You will need to obtain the packet of information from your state board of nursing and follow their requirements. Companies such as mine have providerships and I can offer contact hours for the programs that I do, but I have not offered this as a service to any chapters. Your best approach will be to contact a hospital where some of your members work. Go to the staff development dept at that hospital to learn if they have a providership and if they would work with your chapter. Lynn

contact hours

I have applied twice to my state nurses association for contact hour approval for our education conference. It can be a bit confusing at first, but it's not unmanageable. You will have to pay a fee for the manual with step by step instructions, and also the forms that need to be completed. There are representatives at the state nurses association, who will help you through the process. There will also be a separate application fee based on the number of contact hours. All total, it generally costs several hundred dollars.

Good luck! Jennifer
