IV set changes for TNA (TPN) without Lipid Emulsions

Hi,

What are the recommendations regarding set changes for TNA (TPN) without Lipid Emulsions?

Thank you,

 Use of the abbreviation TNA

Use of the abbreviation TNA stands for total nutrient admixture, so this means that fat emulsion is added to the other components and everything is in one fluid container. So IF you are talking about a parenteral nutrition formulation WITHOUT fat emulsion, you can change the set "no more frequently than at 96 hours, but at least every 7 days." This is a drect quote from the 2011 CDC guidelines. Any set exposed to fat emulsion must be changed every 24 hours. Lynn
