Looking for your practices, policies, and available evidence in re: to pedi/neonatal blood sampling from CVC, and blood conservation.
Have seen the mixing method on this forum (not specific to peds).
(Note - our policy recommendations are to avoid CVC blood sampling whenever possible.)

Several years ago, Ann Marie Frey, CRNI, from the infusion team at Children's Hospital of Philadephia conducted a literature review on blood sampling techniques and included the mixing method. Darcy Doellman and Angela Lee are on this list and are peds experts. Avoidance of drawing samples from CVAD is always best, but I think the mixing method is the next best approach especially for conserving blood. In fact, this technique may have been started by peds nurses. Lynn
