I need some help finding references as to how long the patient must remain flat after a non-tunnelled central line removal.  The INS procedure and standards are very vague about that.Â
I can not provide a specific reference but most procedures that I am aware of call for an ointment-based dressing, totally adherent, left on for 24 hours and the patient flat for 30 minutes. This level of procedure detail will not be found in the INS standards. Lynn
I am remembering article in the Critical Care Nursing that included a review of practice and a literature review, that lead to the ointment on the site and having the patient flat for 30 minutes.
If I can find it, I will send more info so you too can read it and see where their references lead them to that decision.
