Our Vascular Access team is looking for interesting PI project ideas. Will appreciate any suggestions. Also, has anyone done PI on turn around time from request to insertion of PIV or PICCs? Thank you!

I would look at what are your frequent complications. Also is your team called to do troubleshooting of CVADs or are you just an insertion team? The list is endless of what should be assessed with VADs. I would hope that your team is already working in close collaboration with your infection preventionists on CLABSI rates. How much tPA is being used for declotting lines? What can be done to decrease this use? What about continued dressing integrity and correctly timed dressing changes? Appropriate management of all IV sets according to INS standards. Correct scrubbing of needleless connectors. Timeliness of choosing the most appropirate VAD - do patients get stuck a lot before a PICC is chosen? Time from PICC insertion request to the actual insertion? I could go on and on but this should give you lots of ideas. Lynn
