We are looking to purchase an MRI compatible infusion pump. What is everyone using? I understand the medrad system is under recall and they are not accepting new customers.
BBraun makes a casing for their pumps called SpaceStation MRI. It shields the pump from the magnetic waves and allows it to function as programmed. We purchased the BBraun pump 2 years ago and couldn't be happier with its' performance and the support provided by the company.
There are only 2 MRI compatible infusion pumps available on the market today--the MRIDIUM by Iradimed and the Continuum by MEDRAD, a Bayer company. The MRidium is approved for use up to the 10000 GAUSS line in up to a 3T magnet. It is a full size infusion pump with available bypass tubing (so you don't have to remove the origininal infusion tubing) and also has a drug library, and is very similar to full size infusion pumps. Find more information at www.iradimed.com
The Continuum is more similar to the home infusion pumps, the small pumps need to be locked into the MRI conditional base in order to be used in the MRI scanning room, if not in the base they can become projectiles.
The case for the BBraun may prevent it from becoming a projectile, however, it does not sheild the pump from the effects of the MRI, the pump could potentially heat up or malfunction due to the high magnetic fields depending on the size of the MRI (Tesla) and how close you move it towards the MRI, (GAUSS line).
Are you asking about an MRI compatible regular large volume infusion pump or an MRI compatible power injector? Lynn
