Time for skin cleansing for peripheral IV starts

Does anyone have any evidence to support the amount of time for scrubbing the insertion site prior to an IV start?  I have heard varying amounts of time and since our policy is being revised, I thought that it would be a good opportunity to find out if any evidence exists.

 You should use what is

You should use what is listed in the instructions for use eg Chloraprep or Chlorascrub. If using only alcohol scrub until the last pad appears clean. I have never seen a specific time recommendation. Lynn
