Our children's hospital is a children's hospital with-in a hospital. We Have a dedicated Peds PICC team but would like to create a PVAT. I'm looking for input from those of you that have experienced this type of program or have valuable information to pass along.
Thank you for you input, Jama Jaderquist CCRN, ANM PICU PSHMC in Spokane, WA
Jama,
I don't know if you are planning to attend AVA this year but I am doing a session on developing a PVAT based on our 10 years of this service at our Children's hospital within a hospital system.

Holly, I'm not able to attend the conference this year. I would really appreciate any information you could give me. I know this is a hot topic.
Thank you for your time, Jama Jaderquist
Jama,
I am a Pediatric VA nurse for a children's hospital within a hospital. We started out as just a VAT and expanded to include PICCs 5 years ago. We are in charge of maintaining all central lines in the acute care areas, dsg changes, accessing port-a-caths, difficult IV sticks throughout the hospital and our ajoining clinic. We also check the PIVs daily for infiltration. There are only 2 of us for our "team" and have coverage Monday-Friday from 7A-7P. This has decreased the number of IV attempts creating happier patients. Our PICC demand is not great therefore we have the capability to do this.
Hope this helps,
Jennifer
Thank you Jennifer for the helpful information.
