I am part of a large home care and home infusion company. My question is, Do your home care RNs carry 10 mls normal saline flush syringes and or 5 mls 10 units per ml heparin flush syringes just in case to care for problematic central lines, etc. I don't see anything in the Ohio Nurse Practice Act against this practice. Thanks.
This practice would be regulated by your state board of pharmacy. Lynn

That's what I thought. Thanks Lynn!
You need to check your state pharmacy regs, which your home infusion pharmacist can help you with. In many states, drugs (including NS and Heparin flushes) have to be labeled for a specific patient, and should be send to the home including extras for troubleshooting, and cannot be carried in a vehicle or with a nurse and administered without being labled for that patient.
It is state specific.
