I just got a referral for a Rocephin infusion to be administered in a groin hickman with the tip located in the IVC. This is my first experience with a groin central line and with this tip location. Long story short, the groin was the only choice for placement due to many factors. Any suggestions to help me prevent a CLABSI in this pt. ? Is the ip placement going to cause any further complications. Thank you in advance. Valorie
Hickman is a brand name for a tunneled cuffed Cath. Is that truly what you have? If so, exit site should not be directly in the groin although femoral vein was used. IVC above diaphragm confirmed by X-ray is appropriate tip location.

Thanks Lynn. I have not seen the pt. yet. Admit is still up in the air but that helps me to better assess it :)
