Could someone please tell me the article that concluded that a catheter hub accessed x number of times increased catheter-related infection risk? Thank you so much!!
I don't think I have seen any data that you are asking for. Here is a great literature review that addresses the high percentage of catheters that are contaminated by normal use:
Moureau, N. L., & Flynn, J. (2015). Disinfection of Needleless Connector Hubs: Clinical Evidence Systematic Review. Nursing Research and Practice, 2015.

Thanks, Lynn. I thought there had been a previous discussion about an article that as long as a catheter was accessed 1.7 or fewer times per day, there was no increase in the risk of infection related to the hub manipulation. Of course I am probably oversimplifying the conclusion! Thank you for this article in the meantime. This will be very helpful!
