There are numerous studies reporting on the use of ECG technology for inserting PICCs and other CVADs. Many of these studies were done in Europe because the technology gained wide spread acceptance there first. A literature search will allow you to find these. There are no studies yet using this or any other product recently introduced to the marketplace. Devices usually come to market under the 510 (k) process which means that the manufacturer only has to show that their device is substantially equivalent to another predicate device already on the market. So studies do not come until the product has gotten into clinical use for months to years. This process is thoroughly described in the INS textbook chapter on IV Equpment. Lynn
