flushing

With the new INS Standards not recommending one flushing solution over another, are most institutions still using the previous INS flushing tables as guidelines?  Thank you.

Those old flushing cards are being revised. We also have to focus on 2 different interventions - flushing and locking - different purposes and sometimes, different solutions Lynn

 Any idea when the new

Any idea when the new flushing tables will be out?  What will they be based on since the INS says there is not strong evidence to recommend one solution over another?

Thank you,

We are developing a midline policy.  Do any other institutions restrict midline placement to a patient that's been afebrile for 48 hours?

Thank you,

Kristi

Our institution is trying to

Our institution is trying to standardize our flushing/locking policies and make them a nurse initiated order set on our electronic medication administration record. We have a wide variation in practice, some units using only saline for all lines, most units using varying concentrations of heparin. Would love to present at least some evidence to support standardization. Can anyone offer me any insight into what you are doing in your institutions? Do you have a standardize flushing/locking policy? If so, do you have compliance with it? Are you having trouble getting buy in based on the lack of specific recommendations from the new INS standards? Any guidance would be very appreciated.

Also...for the admin of this forum. I am having a terrible time with my log in. I can get a temporary log in every 24 hours, but I cannot change my password because it won't accept what I believe to be my old password.
Thank you,
