I have never had a patient tell me that they "taste" salt all day after flushing there PICC. Has anyone else experienced this? The Pt. is getting IV antibiotics BID. I have had a lot of pts. tell me thy taste the saline flushes but never for the entire day. Just when their PICCs are flushed. Thanks in advance :)

We have had patients tell us this often. We did a little research and the reason seems to be that because of placement the saline gets into the system quickly and the patient breaths out the taste of saline .
This is very common.
All day?

There is a portion of patients out there that do experience some type of taste, smell etc. after flushing their PIV, Midline, PICC or CVC with Saline. Not every patient has this reaction. In my experience patient have reported everything from a salty taste to metalic taste or state that it just tastes nasty but they know that the PIV, Midline, PICC, CVC is in the vein not someplace else.
