re: INS standard 49.1 Removal of Tunneled Catheter. The reference to advanced practice nurse is in small case. I'm not sure if they mean a masters prepared person like a Nurse Practitioner or if they mean a CRNI with experience and training in the "potential complications" who is "prepared to initiate emergency measures as needed". Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks
It means a nurse who can legally perform the surgical task to dissect the subcutaneous cuff from the tissue. This is usually a NP or CNS, so this is the advanced practice nurse to which this standard is referencing.
