For those working with critical care lines I am wondering how you are maintaining your lumens. Are you keeping continuous infusion of fluid ( KVO ) or capping off all lumens and flushing with saline/heparin?

It is done both ways. If there is a frequent need for intermittent meds piggybacking into a carrier fluid and leaving the secondary sets attached is far less manipulation of the system and therefore less risk of contamination.

If capping off are you using saline or using heparin / sodium citrate like with HD lines?
