Is anyone routinely obtaining blood cultures on patients admitted with a central catheter or device to aid in identifying a CLABSI on admission?
This is not recommended as a way to distinguish hospital acquired from community acquired infection. And it adds significantly to cost. Lynn

Seems like the rate of false positives would contribute to an artificially high CLABSI rate. Is your hospital TRYING to not be reimbursed?!
