I just received a phone call from the wife of a 53 YO post CABG pt. She states when the home care nurse drew blood from his PICC line for labs there was "something in the blood that looked like a small chunk of fat" and that is what the nurse told her it was. Has any body ever seen something like this? Due to high cholesterol possibly? Cefapime precipitate? I never have and I was hoping you guys could help me. Thanks! Valorie

Yes, it probably was fat in the bloodstream. What was the patient's lipid profile? Do you have that data to assess? Lynn
