We are looking for feedback of wether you would or would not place a PICC while the patient was receiving a unit of PRBCs.
We have differing views in our team and would like to hear your practices and rationale.
Thanks

Unless the PICC and blood were both urgent needs, I would not place a PICC while blood is infusing. Vital signs must be monitored frequently during blood transfusion and there is always the chance for a reaction. The logistics of all this could be complex depending upon the arm being used for infusion, for BP and for PICC insertion. I would prefer to wait until the blood is finished. Lynn
