Bubble Filters

I just had a questions from one of our Trauma floors regarding bubble filters for a patient who is sensitive to any type of air in the line (even a small bubble). I know they use this in the OR, but have very limited knowledge.  Does anyone have any resources for me that I can read more about this product?  Or direct me to where I can find more information.

Jill is correct. This would be a 0.22 micron filter that can be purchased as a separete add-on piece or integral to the IV set. All IV set companies make and sell these filters. A 0.22 micron filter removes all air, particulate matter and most all bacteria from the infusion. The chapter on Infusion Equipment in the textbook, Infusion Nursing-An Evidence Based Approach contains information about all types of IV fliters including this one. I wrote this chapter and this book is published by the Infusion Nurses Society. There are other infusion textbooks that contain filter information. Lynn
