I believe we use a lesser concentration of Chlorhexidine on these patients, 1% I think. We use this same concentration for our IV starts, pharmacy mixes it.

In our hospital, all babies who are extremely premature that need a CVAD, the disinfection of the skin is done with aqueous CHG 2% (GREEN SWABS FROM SOLU-IV). We use the same concentration for the care and maintenance of site.
If the babies are extremely premature that are four weeks old but under 4 weeks of corrected age, premature and term newborn (<1 month), we used chlorhexidine 0.5% with 70% isopropyl alcohol both for the insertion and the care and maintenance.
Babies over 4 weeks old, we use chlorhexidine 2% with 70% isopropyl alcohol.

Hope this helps, :0)
