Does anyone have information or done research that demonstrates a relationship between frequency of PICC line occlusions and the number of ports to the line?
As long as both lumens are being cared for in the same manner, the number of lumens should not matter. I would suspect that an occlusion problem is more often related to the type of needleless connector in use, the proper flushing and clamping technique for how that needleless connector functions, and the use of saline only as the locking fluid.
