DVTs and removing catheter

Has there been any change in the recommendation to leave a PICC in place (assuming it is functioning well) and anticoagulate when a blood clot is found around the catheter? We explained this to a surgeon and were told that "our research was wrong". Just want to make sure nothing has changed before I provide him with the correct information! Thanks!

Nothing that I know of after the most recent edition of the thrombosis/thrombolytic guidelines in CHEST. I would get those originals, so your doctor can truly appreciate this as a medical guidelines as opposed to those horrible "nursing" standards!! :)). Lynn
