Help-Contact hours for Online Journal Club??

I posted a message about my latest question on my original thread, but have not gotten any replies. I really need to have some feedback before we can get this journal club started.

Do you think that contact hours awarded for completion of each online session would be necessary? We have run into a technical snag with the online system we were planning to use. It will not allow us to collect nursing license numbers on a secure server.

We have found another way that will allow for the secure collection of this required information but it will require each participant to do more steps. Please let me know your thoughts  - would you participate without receiving contact hours or is contact hours required for you? Thanks for your feedback. Lynn

 Thanks. We decided to do

Thanks. We decided to do this with the system that will allow us to award contact hours. We are hard at work on this and will be making our announcements very soon. Lynn

my one concern Lynn

Not all of us have employer provided funds for education and development.  It can get very expensive.

 I do understand your concern

I do understand your concern about the expense. We do try to make our courses as cost effective as possible. One other very important aspect to think about - continuing education is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of the individual. I do not think it is appropriate to exclusively rely upon one's employer for your continuing education. This would mean that your nursing career is totally directed by your employer. I strongly believe that each nurse should take responsibility for their own continuing education. In this manner, you decide your learning needs. You decide how to meet those learning needs in your own way, your own time. Your employer is out of the picture. Otherwise you are giving total control to your employer. Their needs are not the same as your needs. Something to think about. Also usually all costs for continuing education are considered a tax deduction. Lynn

Contact hours

Lynn,

Contact hours are great and these are in our specialty field of vascular access and infusion therapy.  I wouldn't mind the extra steps to remain secure.  However, knowledge is good either way!

Thanks,

Carole
