I know we all have experienced line infections that have spread to the blood stream. But has there ever been known evidence of blood infections infecting a line? Say a patient with urosepsis... for example.
Yes. Another site of infection can cause a CRBSI. This is the lowest risk of all causes though but it does happen.The greatest risk comes from 1) skin and the insertion procedure, 2) the VAD hub and the actions taken with it, 3) contaminated infusates, 4) other infected sites. Lynn
