Have you heard/read anything about intralipid infusion related to CLABSI? I have heard that some hospitals are hanging their lipid infusions every 12 hours rather than 24 hrs (so two syringes instead of one) in order to decrease the risk of infection and cholestasis in their neonates.
This is not new as we have known for many, many years that IV fat emulsions carry a risk of malassezia infection, which is a yeast found on human skin and grows very well in IVFE. 12 hours is preferred for the fluid container and IV set delivering IVFE. See CDC Guidelines from 2011. Lynn
