I was asked today about how often you should measure the circumference of a PICC line. I was not able to give her an answer. Are there refernce materials i can review and show the staff?
Measure it at baseline before the PICC is inserted. Measure again when there are clinical signs and symptoms indicating there could be a complication. There is no evidence supporting a routine, regular measurement of arm circumference. Lynn
