At a bloodstream infection workgroup meeting today, someone posed the question.........can you find an article to show me where we need to use a new alcohol wipe with each entry? Why can't we use the same alcohol wipe multiple times.
I have looked in the CDC guidelines for 2011, and in the 2011 INS (Standards), and I do not see this specific statement made. Maybe I am overlooking it. Lynn, you did address this in an August 2010 thread discussing length of scrub, but there are no articles/standard listed, just "The Practice Recommendations". If you know of any place that addresses this specifically, could you please post?
It only makes sense to me, but I would like to at least address the question posed.
Thanks!
Lesha
This is basic product instructions for use. Once opened and used, the pad for any antiseptic is contaminated. I believe all pad manufacturers would state a one-time use. This is information will always come from the product manufacturer and I would not expect to find any other studies on things like this. No money, time, and resources to conduct such studies. Lynn
