Does anyone know of any NP programs that focus on vascular access? I know that there are PA's and some NP's that work solely with the IR department of their facility, but are most of their degrees in the area of family medicine or possibly emergency medicine? I want to go back to school, but I don't want to give up working in the area of vascular access - any suggestions? thanks in advance
A few years ago I heard about a Clinical Nurse Specialist program for infusion therapy at a college in North Carolina, but I can not find my notes on it. The only thing I am aware of is for NP to get their degree in adult health and then do some individual work with an IR dept but this would be limited to just insertion of VADs and not include the infusion therapy side. I would suggest you get in touch with your local chapter of ARIN--the Assoc. of Radiology and Imaging Nurses, and SIR--the Society for Interventional Radiology. They both have websites with an abundance of information about the specialty. ARIN has its own listserv, also. It is a good place to look for that type of information and network with those in the field. There are many ARNP and PAs who work in the Radiology department doing vascular access as well as other procedures.
