PICC consent

Hi everybody,

I'd like to enquire about what type of consents are used for PICC insertions. Currently we use a general consent form but myself and other PICC Nurse brought Lynn's consent forward to use. It was turned down. It was brought forward during an general overhall of our P & P by our Educator. I have requested a meeting with our Risk Manager to discover her specific concerns. Any insights, advice or information is welcomed.

I think you may be referring

I think you may be referring to the consent I posted on this site, right? If so, that one is about 10 years old. So I would love to know what the comments are about this one from your Risk Manager. Thanks, Lynn

Hi Lynn,  That is the one,

 Hi Lynn,

That is the one, when we meet with her I will let you know. Any other thoughts? Is it still relevant? We (the PICC nurses) like it.

Thanks,

I had not read that form in

I had not read that form in many years, but I think it is still a good document. The only thing I can think of that would need to be changed would be the use of ECG for tip location if that is being used, along with the information that a chest xray may still be required bacause of factors that may not be known before you begin the procedure. I am very interested in feedback for your risk manager. Thanks Lynn

We are to be meeting with

We are to be meeting with our manager and our hospital's legal team to discuss it. I am not sure when. I will let you know. We did take out the ECG for tip location and use CXR for confirmation. We (the PICC team) think it is a great form.

Sincerely,

Kerry
