I recently gave an in service on types of vascular access devices. During the in service, one participant told me that she had heard that a Powerglide is only rated for 2 power injections. I have not found anything in the literature that this is the case. I would think that the manufacturers would have that in their literature if this were the case. Has anyone heard this before?

Powerglide
It would be in the instructions for use for each specific product. I think PowerGlide has restrictions on no more than 300 psi and contrast injections rates of no more than 5 mL per second. Lynn

I've never heard that about Powerglide, it seems to me the device would be fine but maybe not the vein?
In the application to the FDA for this type of product, instructions for use are written based on device specifiations and what the device will tolerate. No clinical work is required for the original submission. So I doubt there was consideration of the vein. Plus the quality of the vein has numerous variations that would be hard for any manufacturer to address in the IFU. Lynn
