Good morning everyone!
We are currently looking for litterature, BPG that would support that priming tubulures over sink/garbage is UNACCEPTABLE. Unfortunately, with all our research, we have not found any. Can someone help me?
Thanks!

So sorry but I have never heard the word "tubulures". I don't know what this is. If you are asking about priming any type of infusion set or any component of an infusion system over a sink or trashcan, this is acceptable. The main concern would be to prevent contamination of the male luer end of the set. There are 3 places where all IV sets are sterile - both ends covered with a plastic cap and the internal fluid pathway. As long as those remain sterile, it would be better to have any fluid dripping out to go into a sink or trashcan so you would not have drug or glucose residue in the environment. On male luer end of some brands, the cap has a vented cover so you do not have to remove it to allow fluid to prime the set. Others are a solid cap so you would have to remove it for fluid to flow. Let me know if this is what you are asking about. Lynn

Oups! This is my French words putting in an anglo way.
What I meant to write was tubing. So really it is acceptable!!! Wow, I was always taught to do in a clean area such as over a kidney basin, sterile gauze or leave the male luer end in the package while priming. Well, I guess this will make things much easier. Thank you Lynn!
As long as the sterile tip does not touch anything at all, it would be far better to go into a sink or trashcan instead of on the floor, etc. I would never place an open male luer tip on any type of gauze, sterile or not. A kidney basin or package would not be sterile either. So the same principles would apply - keep the male luer end from touching anything! Now I know a new French word! Lynn
