Push-Pull for lab draws from central line

I'm trolling for any ideas for using the push-pull blood sparing method for lab draws.  I have Nancy Moureau's article from Nursing 2004, 'Drawing blood through a central venous catheter' which is very helpful and I think that makes the process pretty simple.  I was on our PEDs unit today and they were asking about doing it through a 3-way stopcock.  That seemed cumbersome to me.....I liked Nancy's method better.

Ideas?  Thanks!!!

 Stopcocks are frequently used for blood draws as long as they are removed and discarded after the procedure. Are you asking about the "mixing method" for drawing blood? One syringe to flush, then aspirate blood and inject 4 times without discoonecting syringe, then change to empty syringe and draw sample? Here is a great reference:
