quad PICCC lines

Hello Again and thank you for your help.

Is anyone aware of a QUAD PICC LINE on thee market.  We have seen some patients that could use this device although not sure if it would be advisable/possible.

Thank You Jackie

I don't think there is one

I don't think there is one on the market, but in my opinion, they would be dangerous. The literature on PICC-associated vein thrombosis clearly points to larger Fr sizes and more lumens causing greater rates of DVT especially in critical care where the larger sizes and more lumens are necessary. INS SOP says be aware of these increased risk for PICC DVT in critical care. After reading the literature, I would have a hard time placing even a triple lumen PICC. A few years ago, a study on triple lumen PICCs was stopped permaturely due to this issue. Lynn
