I understand the INS Standard of Practice Statement (risk versus benefit). This statement is also referenced in the Joint Commission 2012 Global Challenge document. Are there any other organizations that have published a statement addressing the risks of routine blood sampling from CVADs (other than just referenceing INS)?
I'm looking for more evidence to change our practice into a daily patient assessment (should a peripheral vein be used or the catheter).
The only thing I am aware of is opinions from conversations with infection prevention nurses. Both APIC and SHEA are revising documents as I write this but I am not sure when they will be out or what they will include about this issue. Lynn
