Tech on your IV team?

I wanted to know if any of your IV teams have Techs on them?   That is unlicensed staff trained and checked off in starting IVs.

Thanks in advance,

This is done at hospitals in Minnesota. The definition for Infusion Teams written by the INS Infusion Team Task Force and published last May includes unlicensed assistive personnel as part of the team under the supervision of an infusion nurse specialist. My concern is who is educating, documenting competency, and supervising this group? In my opinion, this role requires only an infusion nurse specialist. They should not be loosely supervised by any staff nurse. Also, you must check with your state board of nursing about their rules and regulations about delegation to a UAP. You must follow their statements about delegation as having a UAP do these invasive procedures would be a delegated act with the RN, preferably CRNI, being help accountable for the actions taken by a UAP.
