I had our PHD RN in oncology question PIV routine site rotations in the oncology/immune compromised patients. Her thought is if the implanted port Huber needle requires at least an every 7 day change shouldn't this population have at least an every 7 day PIV site rotation? Any ideas??? I am a firm believer in site rotation only when clinically indicated but her feeling is her population will not she signs of complication???
See page S58 of INS Standards, Practice Criteria D. 3, there is no recommendation for changing the port access needle every 7 days. So this rationale does not hold up. Lynn
